코넬대가 위치한 뉴욕주 업스테이트 이타카시 법원이 지난달 21일 이 학교 졸업생인 이재석(34.사진) 씨에 대해 지난해 5월 교내 북부 캠퍼스 기숙사 제임슨홀 1층 여자 화장실에 몰래카메라를 설치한 혐의로 구속영장을 발부했다고 교내신문인 코넬데일리선이 지난달 29일 보도했다. 학교 측은 이날 보도자료를 통해 이씨가 2014년까지 학교에 등록돼 있었다며 그는 한국 국적으로 지난해 7월 귀국했다고 밝혔다.
코넬대 캠퍼스 경찰은 이씨에 대해 E급 중범죄에 해당하는 2급 불법 몰래카메라 설치 혐의 2건을 적용한 상태다.



After nearly a year of investigating, Cornell Police filed charges against a 34-year-old former Cornell student who allegedly placed a camera in a women's dorm bathroom on May 16 of last year.

Jae Seok Lee, a citizen of the Republic of Korea, was charged with two counts of Unlawful Surveillance in the Second Degree, a class E Felony. An arrest warrant was issued by Ithaca City Court on May 21.

According to a press release, "At the time of the discovery of the camera, Lee was registered as a student. He departed the United States in July of 2014.

"In March, 2015, Cornell Police released additional images and a short video of a then-unidentified male placing the camera in the dormitory bathroom. The images and video were extracted from the camera by the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center’s Computer Crime Unit.  In response to the image and video releases, Cornell Police received a number of tips from the community, which were instrumental in identifying Lee."
