미시건주 검찰에 따르면 미시건주법원은 최근 오차드 레이크에서 ‘스시 사무라이’를 운영해온 장동현, 크리스티나 장씨 부부(사진)에게 판매세 횡령 부문에 대해 98만479달러의 벌금형과 함께 5년 집행유예를 선고했다. 장씨 부부는 허위세금 보고 부문에 대한 판결이 아직 남아있어, 결과에 따라 벌금액 등 형량이 늘어날 것으로 보인다.
검찰 조사결과 장씨 부부는 판매세를 자동으로 제거해주는 재퍼(Zapper)라는 소프트웨어 프로그램을 이용해 일부 거래내역을 삭제하는 수법으로 2012~2015년 약 250만달러 매출을 누락 보고한 것으로 드러났다.
장씨 부부는 월별 판매세 보고 누락 혐의, 소득세 신고서 누락, 서류 조작 등 100건의 혐의 가운데 64건에 대한 유죄를 인정했다. 이들 부부는 도주우려가 있다는 이유로 여권을 압수당한 채 조사를 받아왔다.

But their American dream faded this week when authorities charged the husband-and-wife restaurateurs with embezzling more than $170,000 in sales taxes paid by their customers — and with under reporting their sales by more than $2.5 million, thereby evading state income taxes.The charges include their alleged use of "zapper software" that erased the electronic trail of sales tax income from their cash register's computer, the state charged.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced Friday he had filed more than 100 felony charges against Christina Chang and Dong Chang, who live in Orchard Lake not far from their Asian restaurant at 4143 Orchard Lake Road, just south of Pontiac Trail.
