프레즈노 경찰국은 한인 이종(Chong Lee·36·사진) 씨가 지난 22일 스트리트 폭력 전담팀에 의해 살인 혐의로 체포됐다고 28일 밝혔다. 사건은 지난 19일 오후 3시 55분 프레즈노 지역 오차드 애비뉴와 그랜트 애비뉴 인근 교차로에서 발생했다. 당시 경찰은 상반신 부분에 자상을 입고 길가에 쓰러져 있던 세실 델로니(31)를 발견했다. 노숙자인 델로니는 의식이 없는 상태였고, 곧바로 인근 병원으로 옮겨졌으나 숨졌다.
수사 당국은 델로니가 여러 명에게 쫓기다가 교차로에서 폭행을 당했으며, 이 과정에서 한 명이 휘두른 흉기에 찔린 것으로 확인했다. 목격자 증언 진술 등을 토대로 경찰은 이씨를 이번 사건의 유력한 용의자로 특정했다.
이씨는 체포 직후 프레즈노 카운티 구치소에 수감됐다. 검찰은 지난 26일 이씨를 살인 혐의로 기소했지만, 다음 날 열린 인정신문에서 이씨는 무죄를 주장했다. 다음 심리는 9월 중에 진행된다. 경찰 측 관계자는 “수사가 계속 진행 중이며 당시 폭행에 가담했던 다른 용의자들도 쫓고 있다”고 말했다.



A man has been arrested after another man died after a stabbing on August 19 in Fresno.

The Fresno Police Department says officers were called just before 4 p.m. to the intersection of Orchard Avenue and Grant Avenue for reports of man lying in the roadway.

When they arrived, officers found 31-year-old Cecil Deloney unresponsive with a stab wound to his upper body.

He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing several men chasing Deloney before assaulting him at the intersection, with one of the men fatally stabbing him.

Investigators also say evidence shows Deloney was homeless.

Homicide detectives identified 36-year-old Chong Lee as the suspect responsible for his murder.

On August 22 Lee was arrested and booked into Fresno County Jail where he was formally charged with murder on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

The investigation is still ongoing.
