북가주 버클리 지역에서 50대 한인 남성이 여성이 살고 있는 아파트에 침입, 귀금속을 훔쳐 달아나다 체포됐다.
버클리경찰국(BPD)은  지난 8일 오후 이 지역 히어스트 애비뉴와 캘리포니아 스트리트, 올론 파크 인근에서 최광열씨(댄 광 최·50·사진)를 절도 혐의 등으로 체포했다고 밝혔다. 경찰에 따르면 피해 여성은 최씨 침입 당시 화장실에서 인기척을 듣고 밖으로 달려 나와 즉시 911에 신고했다. 피해 여성은 밖으로 나오는 과정에서 욕실 창문에 걸쳐 있던 최씨의 다리를 봤다고 경찰은 전했다.
신고를 받고 출동한 경찰은 뒷문으로 빠져나오던 최씨를 체포했다. 당시 그는 피해자의 침실에서 훔친 귀금속을 소지하고 있었다.
경찰은 최씨의 직업은 컴퓨터 기술자로 확인됐다고 덧붙였다. 그는 주거 침입과 장물 소지 혐의로 체포돼 샌타리타 교도소에 수감됐으며, 보석금 1만5000달러가 책정됐다.



Police arrested a man who broke into a Berkeley woman's apartment while she was home and stole a piece of jewelry Monday, authorities report.

The woman, who is in her 40s, was in her bedroom at about 4:40 p.m. when she heard someone in her bathroom.

She "ran out of her apartment and called 911," Berkeley police said in response to a Scanner inquiry. "As she ran from the building, she could see the legs of the suspect still sticking out through her bathroom’s window."

A neighbor, who called the break-in "a very unusual occurrence" in the area, told The Scanner the woman was "very shaken up" after the incident.

BPD arrived quickly and spotted the intruder still inside the apartment, authorities said, at Hearst Avenue and California Street near Ohlone Park.

They detained him without incident when he left through a back exit on California Street.

When police searched the man, they "found a piece of jewelry that was stolen from the victim’s bedroom," BPD said.

The suspect was identified as 50-year-old Dan Kwang Choi, who also goes by Kwang Yol Choi, according to police.

Choi, who works as a computer technician, according to the jail log, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property.
