On September 20, Team 8 of the Department of Investigation of Social Order Crimes (Hanoi Police) is detaining Park Jae Chul (32 years old, Korean nationality) to coordinate with relevant agencies to clarify his criminal behavior.
According to records provided by South Korean authorities, on August 10, 2011, Park met a couple touring the building managed by Park and his father. Park used a knife to threaten and injure the boyfriend, then raped the girl in a room on the second floor of the building.
After committing the crime, Park fled and was wanted by Korean police for investigation into rape and intentional injury.
On the evening of September 19, Park was arrested by detectives from the General Department of Crime Prevention and Control (Ministry of Public Security) at an apartment on the 15th floor of CT2 Vimeco area, Trung Hoa ward, Cau Giay district, when he had just returned from playing golf.
At the investigation agency, Park said that he saw the young man fall down the stairs and took him to the emergency room. Afterwards, Park returned to the young man's girlfriend and had sex with her. The victim later reported Park for rape.
Park did not admit to using a knife to threaten the young man to harm his girlfriend who was with him.
According to the investigation agency, Park entered Vietnam more than a year ago. He rented an apartment in Trung Hoa area and opened a garment business office on Nguyen Khang street, Cau Giay district.
“Before fleeing to Vietnam, Park and his father managed a hotel with 120 rooms. He deposited 50,000 USD into his account. This young man also said he was preparing to marry a 20-year-old Vietnamese girl. He had no wife or children in Korea..." - a detective said.
