20대 한인 남성이 직장 동료들을 대상으로 ‘살해 명단’을 작성했던 것으로 밝혀져 충격을 주고 있다.
펜실베이니아주 앨투나 경찰국은 블레어 카운티 이스트 프리덤 지역에 거주하는 세드릭 김(Cedric J. Kim·21·사진) 씨를 지난 13일 공공 불안을 야기한 테러 위협 혐의로 체포했다고 밝혔다.
지역 방송인 WTAJ는 김씨가 앨투나 지역 식당인 ‘잭스 바 앤 그릴(Zach’s Bar and Grill)' 운영 업체의 직원이라고 15일 보도했다. 경찰은 “김씨가 인근의 같은 계열 식당인 '올드 캐롤라이나 바비큐(Old Carolina Barbeque)'의 관리자 등을 해칠 목적으로 '살해 명단(kill list)'을 작성했다”고 밝혔다.
경찰 수사에 따르면 김씨는 다수의 직장 동료에게 직접 작성한 '선언문(manifesto)'과 '살해 명단'이 있다고 말했으며, 8월5일을 실행일로 언급했다.
김씨의 직장 동료들은 “김씨가 며칠 남았다”는 말을 반복하며 카운트다운을 하거나, 직원들에게 “자살하라”고 말하는 등 폭언을 해왔다고 진술했다.
한 동료는 또 “김씨가 자신의 시간이 끝났을 때 선언문을 공개할 것이라고 말했다”고 밝혔다.
경찰은 김씨가 예고한 실행일에 주목하고 “김씨가 언급한 8월 5일은 역사적으로 일본 히로시마 원자폭탄 투하 80주년이 되는 날로 (범행 계획과) 직접적인 연관성이 있는지에 대해 수사 중”이라고 밝혔다.
식당 관계자에 따르면 김씨는 평소 내성적인 성격이지만, 화가 나면 쉽게 흥분하며 심한 욕설을 했다고 한다. 최근에는 승진 대상에서 탈락하면서 좌절감을 드러낸 것으로 전해졌다. 회사 측은 그를 해고 예정자로 분류한 상태였다.
일부 직원은 경찰에 김씨를 두고 “소시오패스 같다”며 “평소에도 거리를 뒀다”고 진술했다.
김씨는 보석금 25만 달러가 책정돼 블레어 카운티 교도소에 수감 중이며 7월23일 예비 심리가 예정되어 있다.



An employee at an Altoona restaurant was arrested after co-workers went to police about his demeanor and him claiming to have a “manifesto” and “kill list.”

Cedric J. Kim, 21, of East Freedom, was charged with terroristic threats to cause a public inconvenience after Altoona police were called to Zach’s Bar and Grill/Old Carolina Barbeque on 6th Avenue Sunday, July 13.

According to the criminal complaint, police spoke to multiple coworkers and managers at the two restaurants, which are owned by a parent company where Kim worked. One witness claimed Kim had discussed with them a “manifesto” he had written. According to their statement to police, he also shared that he had a list of coworkers he intended to kill.

Another witness corroborated, stating that Kim discussed releasing his “manifesto” when his days were done, according to charging documents. They said that he planned to carry out his idea on August 5, just seven days before his 22nd birthday.

Police noted that Kim was spoken to by management and shortly after, told a coworker, for “legal reasons,” that he was kidding about everything.
