괌 교정국 소속 한인 교도관이 고속 추격 끝에 마약 소지 혐의로 붙잡혔다.
퍼시픽 데일리 뉴스는 브라이언 차(한국명 차준용·39.사진)씨가 지난 19일 차량에서 코카인이 발견돼 체포됐다고 21일 보도했다.
경찰에 따르면 19일 오전 11시 50분경 알루팡 비치 타워 인근 도로에서 흰색 도요타 차량이 방향 신호 없이 차선을 바꾸며 과속 운전을 하다 정지 명령을 받았으나 이를 무시하고 달아났다. 경찰은 추격 끝에 운전자를 검거했다.
체포 당시 차씨는 손을 떨며 차량 내부와 옷가지를 더듬는 등 불안한 태도를 보였다. 자동차 보험과 등록증은 만료된 상태였고 차량 내부에는 현금이 흩어져 있었다. 이어 마약 탐지견 수색에서 흰색 가루가 담긴 비닐봉지가 발견됐고, 검사 결과 0.51g의 코카인으로 확인됐다. 차씨는 소유를 부인했다.



A Department of Corrections officer was arrested Wednesday on drug and misconduct charges, continuing a pattern of arrests involving DOC personnel over the past three months.

Brian Joon Yong Cha was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of a controlled substance and official misconduct, according to Guam Police Department records. He is currently detained at the Department of Corrections.

DOC Director Fred Bordallo Jr was informed by Guam Police officials of Cha’s arrest. He was booked and confined at the Hagåtña Detention Facility, DOC stated in a news release

An Internal Affairs investigation was initiated by order of the director. Later Wednesday afternoon, Cha, who had served with the department for 22 months, submitted his resignation. Bordallo accepted the resignation, DOC said.

Guam police have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances of Cha’s arrest.
